A prince in the Hydran Royal family, Tantulus was born to command and give orders. Although some members of the Royal family are known for their dark and brooding natures, Tantulus is known as a jovial sort constantly assisting fellow captains and offering pointers over a bottle of Purple Flower Mead, a popular Hydran drink.
Although his first command was arguably not won through merit in 2254, Captain Tantulus quickly proved that he was a first class starship captain conducting daring raids against pirate installations, bringing many to swift and
brutal justice in his Apache class cruiser. His actions were noticed by his superiors, who quickly promoted him to a larger starship. He was given command of the first
Hydran dreadnought the HMS Paladin, before it was made obsolete by the rise of heavy battle cruisers in fleet ranks. A darling of the Hydran media, he has been decorated by his father, the King, with the Hydran Cross with clusters (the only Hydran to ever be honoured as such), the Knight Lord of the Denala Nebula and the Indigo Star for valour.
Additional details: Prince Tantulus was also made First Space Lord (the highest possible position in the Hydran military) in 2258. Noting that the Hydrans were the only race not to possess an elite arm of their space fleets, he
formed the Royal Hydran Armada (or RHA) which has become a feared band of Hydran captains.
Note: A strange energy similar to that observed around Lyran captain Longnail has recently emerged around Captain Tantalus also. The significance of this is unclear and Federation scientists and the Romulan Tal Shiar are believed to have taken great interest in these developments.

While many members of the Hydran Royal Family who have
become starship captains have met inglorious death on the field of battle, Captain Tantulus uses the three pillar approach to Hydran tactics.
Using a fully classical style employing phasers, heavy weapons and fighters to vanquish his enemy and win glory for the Kingdom, he has been seen to destroy even Klingon heavy cruisers in a single pass.
