Little is known about the early life of Captain Lao Tze except that he was born in the Earth year 2216 on an outlying Romulan colony world to a family of relatively low social standing.
An able officer, he first took command of a Romulan Bird of Prey in the year 2252. It is believed he lost a close friend to a raid from the Gorn in 2259, the direct result of which Captain Lao Tze became intriqued with the ISC, whom he came to believe represented the best hope the galaxy had for peace. Many records on Lao Tze have since been lost since the Romulan sack of the ISC homeworld in 2272 in the final act of the Pacification conflict. It is believed that these records were either destroyed by the ISC or removed by the Romulan Tal Shiar who have gone to great lengths to secure his capture since he defected to the ISC cause in 2261.
Since joining the ISC, he has also become the bane of several Federatiion captains, including some members of the Federation FPF fleet with whom a number of bitter encounters have been fought.
